Great lens, made to be a diagonal fisheye for full-frame digital cameras and renowned for high image quality for an affordable price. Its big removable hood is not really a necessary feature unless you plan to adapt it to a sensor larger than 24x36mm. In that case, it could be proven as one of the very few fisheyes that can really fit. It’s made for reflex, and its mirrorless versions are simply the same lens with a different end mount, the result can be a big and front-heavy lens.
It is a MANUAL FOCUS lens, like the majority of Samyang production, and the lens has no electric contact to add exif information.
It’s a STEREOGRAPHIC lens meaning that it’s projection geometry is different from “common” fisheyes, it’s a diagonal fisheye, filling the 24×36 format with a 180° of fov on the diagonal, BUT it will pick up far more angles on the vertical and horizontal axis than a common 16mm fisheye lens. Hence you will easily be able to make a panorama with 4 shots around plus zenith and nadir, AND you will obtain a much lower resolution than using the 16mm.
size and weight may vary, it’s made with reflex cameras in mind, so mirrorless mounts add a considerable length to the lens.
